The exhibition honored 50 years since Picasso's death by examining the ways his legacy has inspired artists throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Featuring Francis Bacon, Cristina BanBan, Georg Baselitz, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Condo, Eric Fischl, Louis Fratino, Rachel Harrison, Jasper Johns, Martin Kippenberger, Louise Lawler, Richard Prince, and Andy Warhol, each room of the exhibition explored one of four distinct areas of influence, anchored by a major Picasso dating from the late years of 1968–1972: the female body as a site of eroticism, desire, and transformation; a return to childhood through a raw and loose style; re-appropriation; and the Neo-Classical form.
