Published on the occasion of Georg Baselitz: Zeitgeist Paintings at Skarstedt, London, this catalogue includes full plate images, installation views, archival photography, an annotated catalogue, and a text by Sir Norman Rosenthal.

The exhibition reunited almost all of the works from Baselitz's landmark series, which the artist executed in 1982 for Zeitgeist, a large-scale group exhibition of international art at the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin. The exhibition marked forty years since the original Zeitgeist show opened, and included works from prominent public and private collections. Portraying solitary figures framed by closing-in walls and windows, the paintings in the Zeitgeist series evince striking psychological intensity and operate at an intersection of motifs which would come to define Baselitz's work of the 1980s, making these works a formative moment in the artist's oeuvre.
